Poovar is a small coastal fishing village located near kovalam (just 12km from kovalam) the most famous beach in Thiruvananthapuram the capital city of kerala. Poovar is a beautiful location golden sands and blue waters and all but the sea is rough there and so swimming is not advisable. The presence of fishermen population discorages sunbathing. There are no entertainment facilities and no water sports. So if these are the things that you have in mind you might as well go to kovalam that's near by or even varkala beach that's also not too far. Poovar beach's main attraction is its beauty and the feel that visitors experience of going back in time some 2 or 3 decades. See life moving in slow motion not bothered by or not aware of the blistering pace at which the rest of the world is moving. Backwaters of poovar is also worth seeing.
