Home > Temples of Kerala > Sreekovil or Vimaana Sreekovil or VimaanaGenerally pancha-praasaadas,according to Kerala tradition,are sreekovil or vimaana(which is synonymous with praasaada of earlier period)is the most sacred structure.It is proportionately measured through out,and represents the house and body of God.Stella Kramrisch defines vimaana(vi-maana)measured in its parts,is the form of God which is thus universe,the macrocosm,and the temple as well,as a middle term made by man,the microcosm,according to his understanding and by measure….The name praasaada has the widest application.The word does not mean a house or something that is built up.It denotes a setting down (Prasad) and a seat made of that which has settled down and acquired concrete from, the form of a dwelling, a residence, the seat of God. Sreekovil has to be analysed based on two aspects viz ground and elevation.
